When religious weddings are not held in 2030

The rules of the Romanian Orthodox Church, following the Romanian Patriarchate's list for 2030.

  • Every Wednesday and FridayFast days all year round. Some parishes make exceptions in weeks without a fast; ask the priest.

According to the Romanian Patriarchate's list, in 2030 weddings are not held: on every Wednesday and Friday; From Christmas to Epiphany (December 25, 2029 – January 6); Presentation of the Lord (eve and feast) (February 1 – February 2); Easter Lent and Bright Week (March 4 – May 5); Ascension (eve and feast) (June 5 – June 6); Pentecost (eve, Sunday and Monday) (June 15 – June 17); Fast of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul (June 22 – June 28); Dormition Fast (August 1 – August 14); Dormition of the Mother of God (August 15); Beheading of Saint John the Baptist (August 29); Exaltation of the Holy Cross (eve and feast) (September 13 – September 14); Nativity Fast (November 15 – December 24); From Christmas to Epiphany (December 25 – January 6, 2031).
How many Saturdays are free for a wedding in 2030?
29 of the 52 Saturdays in 2030 are free for an Orthodox wedding. The others fall in fasts, in Bright Week or on the eve and day of a great feast.
When is the Fast of Saints Peter and Paul in 2030?
In 2030, the Fast of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul lasts 7 days, June 22 – June 28. By decision of the Holy Synod, the fast lasts at least 7 days, even in years with a late Easter.
When is Easter in 2030?
Orthodox Easter is on April 28, 2030 and Catholic Easter on April 21, 2030. Orthodox weddings resume after Thomas Sunday (May 5).
Can a civil ceremony take place during fasts?
Yes. The restrictions apply only to the religious ceremony. The civil ceremony follows the town hall's schedule.
Are the rules the same for Catholics?
No. In the Roman Catholic Church weddings are not celebrated only on Good Friday and Holy Saturday. During Lent and Advent a wedding is allowed, often without festivities; it depends on the parish.
Is the calendar official?
The Orthodox periods follow the "no weddings" list published by the Romanian Patriarchate. Some parishes have their own practices, for example for Wednesdays and Fridays in weeks without a fast. Always confirm the date with your parish before booking the venue.
